All Updates
7/24/2003: Well we have the keys. The excavator still needs to do some final touches, but that should be done this week or early next. (It would have been done by now if it weren't for the rain). Our refrigerator was delivered and we moved the new furniture we bought for the new house. Moving day is coming!!! (Aug 9-16th).
7/10/2003: Wow!! I got a call last night from the finance person at Brookside. They are scheduling a final walk-through on Tuesday. They are going to be done Tuesday!!! Of course, we still probably won't be able to move in until mid August, but that's OK. Tuesday!!! BTW…the problem with the lights above the cabinets has been fixed.
7/6/2003: I'll keep this update brief. I uploaded 30 or so new pictures. You'll find them under "Exterior", "Staining/Trim" and "Interior II." They installed the kitchen cabinets. There's a slight problem with the lights above the cabinets, but I'm sure it'll be fixed. The stain and polyurethane is complete on the loose trim and we're nearing completion on the rest!!! Move in date is approaching!!!
6/24/2003: Who's supposed to update this website anyway…what a disgrace!!! Anyhoo, sorry for not keeping you up to date, but my schedule has been jam packed from morning until night for the last couple of weeks. I'll give you the verbal update and hopefully put some new pictures up soon.
The front porch is done (with the exception of one little section of soffit). The railing is up and porch looks fantastic. On the inside, the electrical work is done…we bought a boat load of ceiling fans (one for the family room and one for each of the bedrooms). The linoleum is down (although they put the wrong kind in the 1/2 bath…which they are going to fix). Our well has been dug (still have to find out how far down they went). And we're working like gang busters on the trim. We have all of the loose stuff stained and we're working on the Polyurethane. Once that's done and they hand up the interior doors, we'll have to stain and Polyurethane the door and window casings. The absolute worst piece to work on has been our fireplace mantel!! Anyway, I'll try to keep you updated more often.

As of noon yesterday, my Mom (Mom T. that is) is a proud new home owner. The closing on her place went smoothly. Congratulations Mom, we're proud of you!!
As for our house, the siding people are 99% done. There is a little section of soffit on the porch that needs to be completed. The gutter guy was there yesterday and he got all the gutters put up and was hoping to work on the down spouts today. The gutter installation is kind of cool. They use rolls of flat aluminum that matches our siding. The gutter guy has this box in the back of the truck that takes the aluminum and shapes it into a gutter and then he's able to cut it at the desired length. That way there's no gutter seams. He was a very nice guy too…when Michelle saw him, he took her around the house and described the water flow and how the gutters were going to do their job.
The kitchen cabinets were delivered. They're sitting in the family room!! The cabinets and the countertop look awesome!
We finally started staining. Our 1st stain purchase did not go well. It turned out looking like a red color and wouldn't match anything. (Note to anyone staining in the future, the Minwax samples at Lowe's are not necessarily representative). Michelle ended up going to Sherwin Williams and buying some of their standard stain that matches quite well. Plus, we were told the Sherwin Williams owns Minwax, so the quality should be similar.

We would like to welcome a new family member. My cousin Bobby and his wife Jill have a beautiful little daughter. Alyssa Marie Simons was born yesterday at 5:19 pm. She weighed in at 8 lbs 15 oz and she is 21.3 inches long. Mom and baby are doing well.

House Update: We haven't started staining yet because the siding people still have the garage taken over, but push will come to shove soon because the paint looks done, so they are going to want the trim soon! So Sam, Michelle and I are going to re-organize the garage to make some room. Also the Bilco door and PPL meter were installed.
6/3/2003: Michelle, her Dad and I went to Lowes for our stain purchase (the 1st trip of many I'm sure). Now all we need is the siding to be finished so that we have some more room in the garage.
6/1/2003: Happy June!!! Sorry there haven't been updates lately…things have been hectic. The last couple of weekends we were at Don & Stacy's. Don and I installed a new sliding patio door off his kitchen. (I'm practicing doing handy stuff using someone else's home!). We played with Alyssa..she's so adorable. (We're practicing doing baby stuff using someone else's baby!!). This weekend was the family 'hick-nic.' Michelle's family has a yearly get together at a camp ground near where they grew up. Mostly, it's a bunch of family, friends, etc. getting together to talk, play cards, b.s. and most importantly..eat!! It was fun. Very relaxing…no phones, no computers.
Anyway, as for the house, it looks like Verizon put their cable in. PPL still hasn't put the meter in, so we don't have any electricity yet. Brookside sent us the stain allowance along with instructions, so Michelle, her Dad and I are going to Lowe's tomorrow to pick out stain. Hopefully soon, we'll have lights to see what we're doing!! The siding is coming along good and looks awesome. All they have to do is finish the soffit on the porch, some above the family room on the side and the garage front and the a pair of shutters need to go up in the middle second floor. Check out the pictures…I used different software to resize them so the siding doesn't look wavy. If I find some time (yeah right) I'll go back and re-fix the ones that are wavy.
5/22/2003: The siding is done on one section of the garage and they've started on the back. Boy does it look good. I think we're going to be really happy with our color choices. The pictures may look a little wavy...that's happened when I shrunk down the pictures to fit better on the web.
5/21/2003: The siding has started going up on the garage!!
